“I thought of the girl again, picturing her at a lonely little table at one of the bars across the river, all of which were invisible now for the floating laker. I imagined her nursing a gin and bitters, smiling in her own curious way, running a hand through her hair, drumming her fingers on the tabletop, waiting. I wondered. For that single unattainable moment she may as well have been tarrying there across the water.”
Two of my short pieces, ‘Mille Regretz’ and ‘Anise Mints,’ will be appearing in the Fall 2012 edition of Cardinal Sins. The latter, a short treatise on nostalgia and disordered senses, won the category prize for short fiction. Both will be available to read on the Cardinal Sins website following publication.
